Leeds-based noise improvisers Rejection Ops are a drummer and bass-and-electronics player who sound like each is trying to outdo the other at driving audiences from the room (though live they’re a kind of demented party - fancy dresses and lights galore). Drummer Grandmother batters away fast and frenetic, never settling on a stable rhythm or groove for long. Pollutant Cousin’s heavily distorted bass and synths alternate between a rapid clatter of their own and long stretches of screeching, buzzing, shrieking. There’s nowhere stable you can stand, the room’s spinning, you grab for snippets of repeated sound but you can’t focus - and really, that’s the point. Climb out of your own head, shut off the daily grind with an even more powerful grind and, by getting a little overwhelmed, start to live a little.
